ac-locking-valveA recent story was published  in Southern California about the problems associated with huffing, in Riverside County, an inland area southeast of Los Angeles.  The accounts detailed in the story apply to any commercial business in any part of the country.  Of course, certain aspects of this story also apply to residential installations.

Please read the story and be sure to pass-along in your business and your sphere of influence:

Written by Bob Pratte, PE columnist published in PE magazine October 3, 2014

The installation of our locking refrigerant caps deters children, thieves and other unauthorized individuals from so easily committing dangerous actions, and helps to limit the liability associated with illness and injury.  Additionally, the expense of servicing and replacing a lost (or compromised) refrigerant charge, the lost revenue of having an unconditioned place of business and the frustration associated with all of this for a business owner and manager are problems which can be substantially mitigated with the installation of our locking refrigerant caps.  .

Obviously, the actual cutting of copper refrigerant tubing is something that is done fare less than the bleeding of the access valves and in certain installations, a contractor might need to suggest further protection to be considered by a building owner or facilities manager trying to reduce access to the refrigerant.

This story continues to establish the real and immediate need for our locking refrigerant caps – – not just on new installations (which is required by code), but also on all existing condensing units which are exposed to unauthorized access.  We have the solution to the most commonly abused method of huffing (the simple depressing of the stem of the access valves): share it with others.  Novent® and GasGuard™ Locking Refrigerant Caps.

Across the country, school administrators are realizing the importance of good IAQ and a comfortable indoor environment, which both contribute significantly to student success. In the following case studies, school administrators employ solutions like variable-refrigerant flow (VRF), thermal energy storage, energy recovery, and variable-speed technology to achieve energy efficiency while ensuring occupant comfort and health.
