HVACRectorSeal and Haier’s Equipment & Training Donation Puts Moore Tech HVAC School on Mini-Split Map in Memphis

Hands-on ductless mini-split installation project cools classrooms and gives HVAC/R program students at William R. Moore Technical College complete start to finish training.

Thanks to donated equipment and training from RectorSeal Corp. and Haier Ductless Air, William R. Moore College of Technology (Moore Tech) students will enter the local Memphis, Tenn., HVAC service/installation workforce with ductless mini-split air conditioning system expertise.

RectorSeal’s National Technical Manager, James Bowman and Haier’s Technical Support Manager, Karreen Mann spent July 6-9 assisting and training Moore Tech Air Conditioning Instructor, Colin Ford and his 18 HVAC/R program students during the installation. The group installed the donated multi-zone rooftop condenser, four evaporator coils, condensate pumps, overflow switches, line set protection ducting and many other installation accessories integral to mini-split installation. The equipment is now cooling the vocational school’s remodeled machine shop, plus welding and HVAC/R classrooms. One classroom sports an additional working evaporator that provides on-going demonstration and hands-on learning, a founding principle of the school’s educational philosophy. “They already learned the classroom/textbook principles of air conditioning, so this was pure on-the-job training where students performed every part of the installation,” said Ford, a NATE and EPA-certified technician and Moore Tech alumni.

RectorSeal® Wins Two Awards at 2015 RSES Conference and HVACR Technology Expo

(left to right) The Refrigeration Service Engineers Society's (RSES) Walter B. Stopera, CM, Speaker of the Year Award is presented by Arthur Schaufler, president, RSES Garden State Chapter, to James A. Bowman, national technical manager, RectorSeal Corp., Houston, Texas, at the 78th Annual RSES Conference & HVACR Technology Expo held Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Rosemont, Ill. Bowman, who is a former service tech for several HVACR service contractors and still carries EPA-certification, NATE-certification and a Class A Texas contractor license, has spoken at several recent RSES national and chapter events including the last three annual conferences.

RectorSeal RSES Speaker Award #1--Schaufler & Bowman

Rosemont, Ill.–RectorSeal® , leading manufacturer of HVACR products and accessories, was awarded The Most Education Exhibit Award and RectorSeal’s National Technical Manager, James Bowman received the prestigious Walter P. Stopera, CM, Speaker of the Year honor at the 78th Annual Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) Conference & HVACR Technology Expo held Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Rosemont, Ill.

One manufacturer winning both awards is a rarity in the conference’s long history. “Getting these two awards in the same year illustrates RectorSeal’s penchant for educating HVACR service techs,” said Lori Schiavo, editor, RSES Journal.

Bowman, who was presented Speaker of the Year by Arthur Schaufler, president, the award’s sponsor, the RSES Garden State Chapter, has spoken at several recent RSES national and chapter events including the last three annual conferences. It was a recent RSES Southwestern Regional Association (SWRA), Austin, Texas, that prompted Bowman’s nomination by W.D. “Mac” McCarthy, CM, SWRA past president; and Jim Malone, CM, SWRA president and a past recipient of RSES’ Speaker of the Year Award.  “James thoroughly knows his subject material, but more importantly he presents it in a sharing-type of demeanor, rather than the typical teacher-student relationship common among most presenters,” said McCarthy.

The second honor RectorSeal received was “Most Educational Exhibit” and was judged by the RSES Awards Committee using the criteria of overall appearance, educational value and exhibitor responsiveness to attendees.  Awarded Oct. 1 on the HVACR Technology Expo exhibit floor, Bowman and David Isenbarger, RectorSeal’s national accounts manager, accepted the award from J.F. “Fred” Townsend, CM, Chairman RSES Regions 14 & 15 director; Raymond T. Clary, CMS, RSES Regions 4 & 6 Director; Michael Ralston, CM, RSES Regions 9, 12 & 13 Director; Michael J. Thompson, CMS, RSES International Vice President, Region 1 & 3 Director. RectorSeal’s booth, which won among 24 other exhibitor entries, featured fully-illustrated educational depictions of condensate product uses, overflow safety switches and ductless mini-split accessory application tips.

Bowman, who is a former service tech for several HVACR service contractors and still carries EPA-certification, NATE-certification and a Class A Texas contractor license, also presented two seminars at the conference. The seminars were “Condensate Problems and Solutions,” which addressed the 2000 to 2015 evolution of International Mechanical Code (IMC) requirements for condensate removal;  and “Installation Best Practices for Ductless MiniSplit System Equipment,” design through start-up accessories.

RectorSeal’s SureSeal® Vent-Guard Stops Toxic Plumbing Stack Sewer Gas Migration to HVAC Units

sure0-seal-ventHouston–RectorSeal® Corp., a leading manufacturer of quality plumbing and HVAC/R products, introduces SureSeal® Vent-Guard, the industry’s first plumbing vent stack device for eliminating toxic sewer gas and odor egress and migration to nearby rooftop HVAC system outdoor air intakes.

The patent-pending Vent-Guard is available in three sizes designed to fit 2, 3, and 4-inch-diameter (I.D.) commercial building plumbing vent stacks and restaurant grease interceptor vents.

The Vent-Guard introduces outdoor air via its sturdy, non-mechanical hinged flapper that automatically opens during vacuum occurrences caused by a vent stack pressure imbalances events, such as toilet flushes. Otherwise, the flapper remains tightly sealed during a vent stack’s routine state of neutral pressure. The closed flapper eliminates heavier-than-air gas and odors from escaping the vent stack and traversing the roof where they can infiltrate nearby HVAC systems outdoor air intakes and potentially contaminate the building’s indoor air quality (IAQ) efforts. Sewer gas is a dangerous threat to public health and believed to cause and spread deadly diseases, such as SARS and Legionnaires’ Disease.

The maintenance-free SureSeal Vent-Guard is constructed of sturdy EPDM rubber. The Vent-Guard top is infused with carbon black  that is resistant to ultraviolet (UV) light. It is a quick, easy and inexpensive alternative to charcoal filter vent stack attachments that require periodic cleaning and replacement.

Vent-Guard’s unique design allows airflow in and eliminates insect, animal, inclement weather, bird nesting infiltration. Installing Vent-Guard requires a quick and easy push-fit into the vent stack opening. Removal is equally quick and easy.

Vent-Guard is the second of many future introductions to the SureSeal product line, which originated with ASSE-1072-certified SureSeal  waterless floor drain trap seals that are now manufactured and distributed by RectorSeal since acquiring the SureSeal brand in 2014.

Other Vent-Guard features are:

  • five-year warranty guarantee;
  • EPDM rubber construction withstands temperatures of -50°F to 150°F;
  • quality performance tested by QAI Laboratories, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., a third-party testing and certification organization for the building industry;
  • and RectorSeal’s 78-year experience and quality-control in making the finest plumbing and HVAC/R chemicals and products.
